Secure Internet Banking Tips

  • Avoid accessing NetBanking from shared computer networks such as Cyber Café or Public WiFi network like Hotel, Airport, Railway Station, etc.,
  • Disable “Auto Complete” or “Auto Fill” feature in your computer browser.
  • Do not use “Manage Passwords” (Google Chrome) or “Usernames and passwords on forms” (Internet Explorer) feature in your browser. Clear the stored passwords if any.
  • Disable popup windows.
  • Look for a locked padlock or unbroken key symbol, “https://” text in your browser before logging into NetBanking. Ensure that bank’s name appears next to padlock symbol.
  • Use virtual keyboard feature while logging into your NetBanking account.
  • Make sure that your NetBanking password is 8 or more characters and combines letters, numerals and symbols.
  • Avoid ‘easy to guess’ passwords like your name, date of birth, phone number, etc., Passwords must be easy for you to remember, but difficult for others to guess.
  • Don’t use the same password for all your financial accounts.
  • Change your NetBanking password at periodic intervals.
  • Do cross check your last login information available in NetBanking after every login to ascertain your last login and monitor any unauthorized logins.
  • Always click on “close the window” when you log out from NetBanking. Do not directly close the browser.
  • Keep your computer up-to-date with antivirus software and highest security standards. Perform regular full virus scan in your computer.
  • Do not click on hyperlinks in the e-mails you receive. Always type the bank’s URL in your web browser instead of clicking on hyperlinks.
  • The hyperlinks may contain minute misspellings which may be difficult to notice. You will land in deceptive websites which appear very similar to genuine websites if you click on such hyperlinks.
  • Don’t open attachments in your e-mails or install free software from unknown sources in your computer.
  • Never leave your computer unattended / open after keying in information while transacting in any website.
  • Check your account statements regularly to spot suspicious transactions.
  • Don’t use your mobile or computer to store any sensitive personal information or bank account numbers.
  • Do not be lured by attractive e-mail / SMS / phone calls and do not disclose any personal information.
  • Do not hesitate to contact the bank using the helpline numbers if there is any difficulty.
  • Use only trusted and updated browser. Ensure only HTTPS secured websites are used for payments and online banking.
  • Don’t share your M-PIN/T-PIN and OTP with anyone.
  • Don’t save your usernames and passwords in your browser for Internet Banking or for any financial applications.
  • Ensure to change the password and Pin frequently and never store login credentials on your phone/browser.
  • Always keep a watch on transaction logs and alerts and report suspicious and fraudulent attempts to relevant service providers and police officials.
  • Always check the last log in date and time while logging into Internet Banking.
  • Always use virtual keyboard for entering the User ID and password in Internet Banking.
  • After logging in you will never be asked to provide user name and password again in Internet Banking.
  • Never install/use any Remote Access application/Screen recording applications while using your Mobile Banking/Internet Banking.
  • For the Securing your Debit Cards, Customer may use the options available in Mobile Banking “Card Control” and fix the Purchase limit, Enable/Disable International Transaction including Enable/Disable the Ecom and POS transaction when not in use.
  • Customers can also utilize the options for setting the Limits for their NEFT/RTGS/IMPS/FASTAG/WITHIN Bank transfers for their Mobile Banking for better safety.
